What is mixed technology?
Until the evolution of the Quanta Duetto and now the Quanta Thunder; laser have been restricted to delivery of one laser wavelength at a time. This was provided either independently or one after the other. The mixed technology mode on the Quanta Thunder allows the user to deliver a mixture of the both Alexandrite and Nd:YAG wavelengths as the same time with varying proportions of each wavelength to suit the client.
This technology allows ultimate hair-removal; targeting 2 different chromophores of the hair follicle at exactly the same time. Also as both energies are delivered together there is less thermal damage, so it provides the ultimate in safety for all skin type’s and all skin colours.
Why do I need mixed technology?
A difficulty in laser hair-removal has centred around the ability to treat dark skins with fine hair. The Quanta Thunder laser is the ultimate platform system for this problem by mixing together in one laser-pulse the 2 gold standard wavelengths of hair removal. By adding a proportion of Alexandrite into the safety of a Nd:YAG pulse fine hairs can be treated on all skin type’s.
Alexandrite (755nm) laser is regarded as the gold standard for hair-removal for skin types 1-3/4 due to the high absorption of this wavelengths in melanin (colouring for hair) This increased affinity means Alexandrite is the gold standard for treating thin, fine and light coloured hairs with little melanin.
Nd:YAG (1064nm) laser is the safest wavelength for treating all skin type’s which means it can be used on dark skin type up to and including skin type 6. It has a low melanin absorption so the wavelengths is not absorbed by colour hence its safety in treating dark skin type’s. It targets the germative cell of the hair follicle of the vascular supply of the hair follicle. This means even it gets results in hair with no melanin in them at all and is effective in blond, red and grey hairs.

Optimised spot
The Quanta Thunder series of lasers offer users OptishapeTM hand-pieces, to create an optimised spot shape (super elliptical) The optimised spot shape is nearly square but due to its shape means there is absolutely no crossover of the laser and no overlap.
    
The system also has the option of the Optiscan scanner.
This has multiple scanning modes tailored to treatment to reduce heat accumulation in the tissue and therefore improve patient comfort whilst ensuring homologous energy distribution for optimum results

What are super-elliptical spots?

The major problem to be solved in Hair removal to speed-up treatments is the Overlap.
